FAQ

Labreeder is a realistic game (still in BETA) about breeding Labrador dogs.

The genetics of coat colors inheritance (loci B and E, and even the infamous dilute locus) are a core concept of this management/simulation game. When breeding dogs, you'll also require a minimum of AVK (ancestor loss coefficient) to be ethically good enough, through a reputation metric. Also, the pregnancy, nursing delays, age of fertility and average death age of dogs matches real-life data.

How to play

Reproduction

Simply drag-and-drop a male and a female dog on the pink cushion, at the top right of screen. A green, vertical bar will slowly increase on the right of the dog's portrait to show the progression of the pregnancy.

If the two dogs would produce AVK-4 inbreeding of % or less, it will simply be impossible to proceed with the mating.

Also, the higher the inbreeding (or lower the AVK) the more risk there is of stillborn pups.

Color of coats

Here are the possible genetic variations in the offspring.

Reputation

This metric shows how ethical your breeding business and behaviors are.

You lose 1 reputation if you breed dogs which will produce puppies with AVK-4 % or below.
You lose 1 reputation if you breed the same female dog more than times.

You gain 1 reputation if you breed dogs of generation 3+ which will produce puppies with AVK-4 above %.
You will also gain 1 reputation if you meet the "in demand" dogs for sale.

The maximum possible reputation is .
You LOSE when you have reputation or less.

Health

Around the end of his life, the dog will have some health check where fatal illness could be found. The health checks happen at:

If the dog's health isn't good enough, he may die then.

Food

The consumption is set to kg of daily food, per dog. If you have enough money, food is automatically replenished at the cost of $ for kg.

If you DON'T have enough money, the the game will automatically sell the LAST (most recent) dog!

Selling dogs

If you sell a puppy, and you reputation is neutral (zero), the price will be $ and a grown-up dog is $.

Then, if your reputation increases, you gain 10% more per reputation point, and vice-versa if you have a negative reputation.

Dogs in demand (quests)

Some specific dogs are periodically in demand, they give 20% more money when selling AND give a reputation point. Keep looking a the top left portion of your screen!

Buying dogs

Periodically, you can buy a dog on the market. When it's time, three choices will be offered, one after the other, randomly. The first choice will always be the cheaper, and the price will increase of 20% each time you pass.

Kennels

The price to purchase a kennel is $ and it allows you to better group and seperate your dogs visually.

To switch a dog from a kennel to another:

  1. Drag the dog and drop him over the 'Change kennels' zone
  2. Click a tab above (kennel number)
  3. Drag the dog again anywhere on the screen of the new kennel

Lifespan, litters, nursing period and fertility age

The maximum lifespan of dogs is set at days, or years, but the health of the dog can suddenly cause death at various health checks.

The minimum litter size is set at and maximum at but this random number is halved for the very first litter of a bitch.
Also, the maximum ethical litters per bitch in her lifetime is set to , after that if you continue to breed her, you lose reputation.
